Meddling With Magic
When a wizard casts a spell, a roll of doubles or triples gains them 1 point of doom.
Whenever a wizard gains a point of doom, they must roll a d20. If the rolled 20 is equal to or lower than their doom score, they gain 1 doom effect, known as a mishap. After a mishap occurs, the wizard's doom score is reduced to 0 (Unless you want magic to be even more dangerous).
If a mishap does not name a time, assume it is permanent. Such mishaps may be curable through questing for a solution.
d66 Tables
Roll 1d6 to determine which table to roll on, then another d6 to determine the result on that table. Alternatively, roll on the table most closely matching the form of magic the wizard was attempting when they triggered a mishap.
TRANSMUTATIONAL
-Your eyes turn two different colors.
-Your hair turns rigid as twigs.
-Everything you are wearing turns to stone.
-Every hair on your body turns to water. No new hair grows.
-Your skin turns a shade of green.
-You grow a large wart on your face.
TEMPORAL
-You age 10 years.
-You decrease in age 10 years.
-A random item you are holding or wearing turns to dust.
-You move forward in time 1d6 minutes.
-You are pulled backward in time 1d6*100 years for 1d6 minutes.
-Time around you stops for 1d6*6 seconds. At the end of that time, you drop to 0 HP.
ELEMENTAL
-A fiery explosion erupts over your head. All creatures within 10 feet -take 3d6 damage.
-The ground for 1d6*5 feet around you becomes quicksand.
-A small raincloud forms over your head, and does not disappear.
-Your voice booms like thunder, even when whispering.
-No matter the temperature, you are constantly hot.
-Anything you touch rapidly drops in temperature.
CONJURATIONAL
-Your spirit leaves your body for 2d6*10 minutes, making you effectively a ghost.
-An angry imp is forcibly summoned 1d6*5 feet in front of you.
-Heavenly horns blare for the next 1d6 minutes, drowning out all earthly noise.
-All undead within 100' of you can sense your presence, and are drawn to it like moths to a flame.
-You grow an animal-like trait, such as a pair of antlers, or cat-like eyes. Your choice, but it is obvious
to all who see you.
ILLUSIONAL
-Your skin becomes covered in arcane symbols.
-A continual mist sweeps around your feet.
-Your eyes turn stark white, and you see the world only in shades of grey.
-Strange flickering lights swarm around you whenever you use magic.
-A 60' radius sphere of magical darkness surrounds you for 1d6 minutes.
-Whenever you think an embarrassing thought, pinkish clouds puff into existence around you.
PSYCHOLOGICAL
-You become mistrusting of everyone around you.
-You become overly trusting.
-You grow incredibly over confident.
-You become paralyzingly afraid of the dark.
-You continually feel that something is watching you.
-You feel uncomfortable under the open sky.
